What's Going on at Cudgegong Camera Club

It's hard to believe the year is almost over again.  It's been a good one so far for Cudgegong Camera Club as we continue to attract new members and undertaken new activities.

At our last meeting we had Amber Hooper present some of her beautiful images from The Mudgee Project.  Head over to her site at www.themudgeeproject.com.au

Amber has offered to coordinate our next outdoor activity for our November meeting.  We can't wait.

Remember, we meet the first Tuesday of the month at 7.00pm.  Normally we meet at Club Mudgee but next meeting we will be out and about.  If you wish to come along drop an email to cudgegongcameraclub@gmail.com so you can receive details.

Hope to see you there!

Cudgegong Camera Club News

It's been a while since our last blog and we've been busy doing various activities.  Our June competition was well attended and we had a record number of entries - 400!  One of the really pleasing things was the number of school students who participated.  Thanks kids.

We have also been involved with and ABC Television project called now and then.  This involves getting an old photograph of a streetscape, going to the spot where this photograph was taken, holding the photograph up and aligning as many components as possible to the existing streetscape and going click.  It is quite difficult but a lot of fun.  When our photo is uploaded to the ABC website, I'll post a link.

On Tuesday our meeting looked at lighting with one flash unit, studio lights and candle light.  Our presenter, Noel Dawson, was a great teacher with lots of knowledge.

We have an excursion to Ferntree Gully on 22 July.  If you are interest in coming along send an email to cudgegongcameraclub@gmail.com

Don't forget - new members are welcome.  We meet the first Tuesday of every month at 7.00pm and Club Mudgee.

Camera Club Meeting, 3 April 2012 - Macro Nature Photography

We are looking forward to another interesting Cudgegong Camera Club meeting tonight to review the photographs taken at the Gulgong Gliding Club last month.  A few brave souls ventured out at 6.00am to capture some macros of the insect life around the wetlands of the Club.  We will be seeing those tonight and this will be followed by a talk from Hans Staub about macro nature photography.  Come along and have a look.  We are always pleased to see new faces at our Club.  The meeting is at 7.00pm at Club Mudgee.

Congratulations to Brian Jeffrey

Congratulations to one of our Club members, Brian Jeffrey for receiving the Best Print of the Show award at the Mudgee Show.  The photograph was a beautifully executed and captured a tender moment between a father and son (presumably).  Well done Brian.

Meeting, 6 March at 7.00pm, Club Mudgee

We will be looking at our Mudgee Post Office photographs from our previous meeting (see Activity 1) on Tuesday 6 March at 7.00pm.  We will be meeting upstairs at Club Mudgee.  Hope to see you there.

Activity No. 1 - Streetscape Photography in Mudgee

We had our first activity of the year which was photographing Mudgee Post Office.  Members challenged themselves to finding interesting perspectives, playing with camera settings to create interesting effects, plus a range of other challenges.  It was a fun exercise but unfortunately the odd tropical weather conditions we have been having meant the cloud cover put paid to the sun shining on the building's facade.
We are reviewing our efforts at our next meeting on 6 March.  This meeting will start at 7.00pm at Club Mudgee.  If you want to come along feel free to taken some shots of the Post Office before coming to the meeting.   Below is information on the photo shoot.
Use a small paper frame (or your fingers) to look through to explore how differently we can frame an object.
  • wide angle v narrow angle (zoom)
  •  taking from different heights (stand on something?, get close and shoot upwards?) and different angles (from left v right)
  • shoot from within the building looking out; within post boxes section.
  • offset - place building to one side
  • place an object in the foreground e.g. use passing car or pedestrians (blur?)
  • frame shot using plants in the park etc, to create a foreground (top? bottom corner?)
  • close ups - find interesting details e.g. carving, a lock, lettering on post box, etc.
  • try some random shots: quick grabs, not planned or aligned
  • how can you mask the telecom tower?
At our next meeting each member will be asked to present a maximum of 20 jpeg images from the following:

1 boring, unimaginative shot (starting point)
1 wide angle
1 with foreground or framing
3 close ups of details
2 "different" angles
2 for a newspaper article critical of unsympatheic alterations
1 'old worlde' (white and black, or sepia; ragged frame, high ISO)
3 for magazine seeking to promote the PO as a worthy listing on a heritage listing
1 night shot (may be done during the month)
2 your choice
2 seriously photoshopped (go for it!)
1 your favourite (may be from the above).  Why is it your favourite.
It should be a lot of fun to see how differently we see things through the lens, as well as informative.  So why not come along on 6 March, starting at 7.00pm, Club Mudgee.
